Foiltec established a design/engineering team to consult with Moshe
Safdie to develop and realize a minimalist atrium structural and
cladding solution for a warped surface.
With rigorous blast
and structural performance specifications, the team explored ways of
developing the lightest and safest solution.
This analysis
lead the team to evaluate a unilateral cable system segmented at the
rhythm of the cladding divisions. The span of the cladding was in direct
relation to the specific design loads, thus developing a structural and
cladding system that was intricately integrated and structurally
stable, to accomplish the desired aesthetic.
The new
governmental office complex addresses and engages the street edges and
is divided into three occupied forms, with narrow floor plates
surrounding a light filled atrium.
Under this atrium a network of catwalks connects the three forms as it provides light deep into each space.
